On the South China Sea issue, Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi said the US is not a direct party to the disputes, and he hoped that the US would not get involved, as it has promised, and expressed a desire for both countries to "stay in close touch" despite the differences.
The State Councilor made the remarks during an interview with China Daily ahead of President Xi's US visit later this month.
