Organic food consumption in Hong Kong is on the rise. Some supermarkets saw as much as a double digit year-on-year growth in organic food sales. But Hong Kong’s regulations on labelling are confusing, sometimes making it impossible to tell what is genuinely organic.
Is it OK for businesses to sell organic food without providing a certification label on the product package? What wording do they use to cover up ingredients that are not organic? How much does the price differentiate between regular products and those labelled as organic and how is this a driving force to confuse the consumer?
