Slower growth goal, but a healthier and greener approach

Zhang Jianping, director of the International Economic Cooperation Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planning agency, talks to China Daily about the latest annual Government Work Report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang during the “two sessions”.

China lowered its economic growth target for 2015 to 7 percent, the lowest in more than two decades. Zhang explains in the interview how to understand China’s slower growth goal, China’s ongoing economic restructuring and new driving forces for economy. He also talks about opportunities that the reform of China’s State-owned enterprises and the “One belt, one road” strategy will bring to foreign companies and how will China further promote its opening up. He also talks about his suggestion on how should China integrate “green” and “growth” in its development.
