Zhanjiang, a beatiful subtropical coastal city in Guangdong province, was once the port of origin on the Maritime Silk Road in the Han Dynasty (202 BC to 220 AD). As China is now making the "Belt and Road" innitiatives a priority in diplomacy, this historical city, which has been designated as a pivot city along the 21st Maritime Silk Road, sees its opportunity to rise again as a big marine city.
Zhanjiang mayor Wang Zhongbing came to Big Talk on March 7, to tell how Zhanjiang has become a rising star in South China and share some of the city's development plans.
