Peace in focus at Beijing-Tokyo Forum

The prestigious 10th Annual Beijing-Tokyo Forum was opened in the Japanese capital on September 28 with this year’s special focus on maintaining a peaceful environment in Northeast Asia.
The high-level, two-day forum will foster open dialogue in two inclusive meetings and four panel discussions - on politics, economics, security and the media - with the aim of improving relations between China and Japan.
More than 500 experts, scholars and leaders attended the forum seeking to soothe bilateral relations on a range of issues, including historical problems and the territorial dispute over the Diaoyu Islands.
Among the senior dignitaries who gave welcoming speeches were Yasushi Akashi, former UN under-secretary-general, Zhu Ling, editor in chief of china daily, Cai Mingzhao, minister of China's State Council Information Office and Yasuo Fukuda, former Japanese Prime Minister .
Also included in the opening ceremony were speakers Cheng Yonghua, chinas ambassador to Japan, Fumio Kishida, Japan's foreign minister and Zhao Qizheng, former minister of china.s State Council Information Office.
Founded in 2005 by China Daily and Genron NPO, a Japanese non-profit think tank, the Beijing-Tokyo Forum has become the highest-level public communication platform between China and Japan.
