Rekindled ancient technique

Jingdezhen, in Jiangxi province, is a city that has been supported by ceramic industry for more than 1,000 years.

However, that glory has faded over the centuries and now China's leading position in the industry is threatened by goods made overseas. In order to rekindle the industry of making high quality porcelain, Jingdezhen is trying to protect the tradition with the ignition of the ancient Kilns.

One of the kilns, zhenyao, or Jingdezhen kiln was First built in the early 18th century. It is the only one remaining of about 100 egg-shaped furnaces built in Jingdezhen. By visiting ancient sites, young generation get a chance to know the almost forgotten old-time kiln using timber as fuel.
