The Danish Embassy in China, together with the China Bicycle Association and Yanqing Municipality, organized its fourth "Climate Race" to promote a modern urban lifestyle and raise awareness of green transportation and climate issues.

After gathering at the embassy on May 24, Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen and a group of participants went on a bike ride in the drizzle in downtown Beijing.

Later the same day, a longer bike race with participants from local bicycle clubs took place at Beijing Yeya Lake National Wetland Park in Yanqing county. At the event, Zhang Suzhi, deputy mayor of Yanqing, received Ambassador Petersen.

Bicycling is considered smart, healthy and sustainable in Denmark and it has provided a boost to urban planning as well as reducing city pollution. In the Danish capital of Copenhagen, more than one-third of the population uses bicycle as their primary choice of transportation.
