During his first state visit to Germany on 28-29 March, Chinese president Xi Jinping will go to North Rhine-Westphalia after Berlin.

Located in the heart of Europe and bordering on the Netherlands and Belgium, NRW is both the most populated and the most densely populated of the 16 federal states in Germany.

More importantly, it is a main investment destination for Chinese companies. As so far, it has attracted more than 800 Chinese companies, up from 200 in 2003, said Petra Wassner, CEO of NRW INVEST.

“We clearly saw that there was a boom of Chinese companies investing in Germany,” she said.

M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) activities in the sectors include heavy machinery, automotive and energy during the last four years.

"We are very honored and proud that President Xi will visit NRW and Duessldorf, our capital city. We expect new investments and new businesses on both sites (German investments in China and Chinese investments in Germany)," she said.
