President Xi Jinping travels to Berlin this week for his first state visit to Germany, and the first visit by a Chinese president to the country since 2005.
Relations between Beijing and Berlin have experienced an upsurge in recent years in such sectors as politics, economy and culture. Germany is China’s biggest trading partner within the European Union, and China is Germany’s largest trading partner in Asia.
Ahead of Xi’s visit on March 28, the German ambassador to China, Michael Clauss, sat down with the China Daily to talk about the importance of the upcoming visit and the state of Sino-German ties.
