On Nov 24, more than 1.5 million young people in China will be taking the 2013 National Civil Servants Examination to compete for some 20,000 positions in various government sectors. This means for every job there will be 66 candidates competing on average. The number of exam candidates grew 15 times over the last decade, according to the State Administration of Civil Service. We will meet one university student preparing for this year’s exams, a young civil servant who topped the selection last year and an entrepreneur who saw business opportunities in the exam industry.
